It leads to an impairment of all language
components. These develop more slowly than those of typically developing children. Language is
an essential tool for social integration. This is why supporting the language acquisition of children
with intellectual disabilities is crucial. « Dialogic reading » is a method of language education based
on interaction between an adult and a child. It offers many techniques to develop the child's lexical
and morphosyntactic skills. These include for example, expansion, rephrasing and open-ended
questions. « Dialogic reading » has been shown to be effective with typically developing children.
However, there is little evidence of its effectiveness with children with intellectual disabilities. In
order to study its performance with this population, thirty speech and language therapy students
recruited 89 children attending educational institutes during the academic years 2020-2021, 2021-
2022, 2022-2023. These participants were randomly divided into two training groups: Syntax and
Vocabulary. They were then trained in the « dialogic reading » method according to their group,
with two individual sessions per week. Beforehand, we administered specific standardised tests to
assess their initial language level. We administered the same tests after the training in order to
measure the children's language progress thanks to « dialogic reading » . This thesis focuses on
morphosyntax. The results of our study show significant progress in the morphosyntactic domain, in
reception and production. The « dialogic reading » method thus seems to be an asset for the
language development of children with intellectual disabilities and should be used by all
professionals working with children with intellectual disabilities. Moreover, the method can be used
in the context of parental support. This would help to support and develop the language of children
with intellectual disabilities on a daily basis.</dc:description>
