Il a été constaté que parmi eux, les programmes Lidcombe, DCM, Westmead et PCI étaient constitués de plusieurs principes décrits en communication empathique, et particulièrement ceux de Faber et Mazlsih (2002). Par ailleurs, la pratique en bégaiement des orthophonistes et les comportements des parents d’enfants qui bégaient sont teintés d’habiletés de communication empathique. Les compliments portant sur la parole sans disfluence, l’accueil et la gestion des émotions, l’intérêt pour le développement de l’autonomie et pour l’estime de soi semblent faire partie intégrante de l’accompagnement des enfants qui bégaient. Pour autant, la communication empathique n’est pas mentionnée dans les programmes pour le traitement du trouble. De plus, la connaissance de cette approche n’est pas unanime chez les orthophonistes et les familles. Diffuser l’information pourrait permettre une conscientisation des points communs entre traitement du bégaiement et habiletés de communication empathique chez les orthophonistes et les parents. La vulgarisation de la place de la communication empathique dans l’accompagnement des enfants qui bégaient et de leur famille pourrait donner lieu à une généralisation des pratiques. Many treatments exist regarding the management of children's stammering. Among them, the Lidcombe, DCM, Westmead and PCI programmes were found to be composed of many of the principles described in empathic communication, particularly those of Faber and Mazlsih (2002). Furthermore, the stammering practice of speech and language therapists and the behaviours of parents of children who stammer are coloured by empathic communication skills. Compliments about speaking without disfluency, welcoming and managing emotions, interest in developing autonomy and self-esteem seem to be an integral part of supporting children who stutter. However, empathic communication is not mentioned in the programmes in order to treat the disorder. Moreover, knowledge of this approach is not unanimous for the langage therapists and families. Disseminating information could raise awareness of the commonalities between stuttering treatment and empathic communication skills for the parents whom children stutter. Popularising the place of empathic communication in the support of children who stutter and their families, could lead to a generalisation of the practice.
