<dc:description xml:lang="en" xsi:type="lille:Resume-en">Math anxiety is defined as a feeling of tension, apprehension or fear that interferes with
mathematical performance. This study investigated the influence of a cardiorespiratory coherence
protocol coupled with biofeedback on the reduction of mathematical anxiety among 32 children
enrolled in third grade. This dissertation also conducted a survey on the knowledge of speechlanguage
therapists regarding mathematical anxiety by means of an online questionnaire.
Through the data collected, we observed the lack of a relationship between anxiety and
gender, the positive correlation between trait anxiety and math anxiety, and a negative correlation
between anxiety and math performance. We were able to confirm the impact of ruminations on
working memory, on the phonological loop and on mathematical performance. Concerning the
protocol, we did not observe any significant impact on the reduction of mathematical anxiety
among our subjects. Finally, we were able to confirm that one year of mathematics instruction is
sufficient for the relationship between anxiety and mathematical performance to emerge.
At the same time, the survey addressed to the speech therapists revealed a need for
information on mathematical anxiety. Mathematical anxiety is a clinical reality that is very present
in speech language therapy. We observed that symptoms of highly anxious patients treated by our
respondents are identical to those reported in the literature. Finally, we observed that practitioners
who are aware of mathematical anxiety are more likely to consider its treatment as part of speech
therapy practice.</dc:description>
