contexte naturel d’apprentissage.</dc:description>
<dc:description xml:lang="en" xsi:type="lille:Resume-en">This study was conducted to test the effectiveness of the dialogic reading method on the
lexical comprehension of young children with an intellectual disabilities. Fifty-eight children
attending medical-pedagogical institutes with a chronological age between six and twelve years and
a mental age of about four years were trained by reading illustrated children's books, based on
dialogic reading principles. Two groups of children were formed : a group trained in vocabulary and
a group trained in syntax, each using different books. Standardized and specific tests were
administered before and after the training to objectivize a possible improvement of lexical and
morphosyntactic performances. Receptive lexical progress was demonstrated in both training
groups, but the increase in performance was greater for the group trained in vocabulary than for the
group trained in syntax. In addition, vocabulary training with this method reduced the semantic
distance between the designated images and the targets on the specific receptive lexical test at posttest.
These results show that dialogic techniques can be effective for the acquisition of new words in
reception and promote their organization according to semantic criteria. The continuation of the
study is recommended to obtain data from a larger number of children and thus increase the
statistical power. The validation of this method with these children concerning langage progress
could allow parents to use it in a natural learning context.</dc:description>
