<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">In the context of the radionuclides study especially for their strong impact on our nuclear fuel based societies but also in medicine, understanding the speciation of ions in the bulk or at liquid interfaces is the first step toward building a predictive understanding of the partitioning and transport of these ions under a wide range of biotic and abiotic processes.
Our objective is to improve the basic understanding of heavy element’s interactions both in the bulk and at interfaces over various conditions of temperature and pressure, and to explore how the chemistry occurring at an aqueous interface differs from that seen in the bulk by the use of classical molecular dynamic simulations. The later offers the possibility to explore the configuration space over long time-scale simulations (>10ns), a scale required to explore the physical-chemistry of the relevant systems, and it can simulate entropic effects on hydrated or partially hydrated clusters of interest.
The reliability of the data obtained by the use of simulations is based on the ability of the force-field model to correctly account for all the interactions, beyond simple point charge model and standard Lennard-Jones potentials.
In order to achieve such challenging tasks, and due to intrinsic complexity of the heavy-elements, we have developed original ab initio based force-fields model that account for all the subtle interactions of the systems, such as polarization, bonding character as well as many-body effects that are mandatory to obtained accurate results comparable to experimental data and often neglected.
