<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">This thesis develops a stochastic realization theory for Generalized Linear Switched Systems (GLSS), a model class that unifies and extends several classical and modern dynamical system classes such as Linear Switched Systems, Jump-Markov Models, LPV systems, and piecewise-linear systems. These models are suitable for capturing the behavior of nonlinear and time-varying systems through a combination of multiple linear subsystems governed by a switching signal. The central contribution of the thesis is the formulation of a stochastic realization framework for GLSS models with inputs and i.i.d. switching. The study begins with a general decomposition result (Chapter 3), showing that any output process of a GLSS can be uniquely decomposed into deterministic and stochastic components. This separation enables the reuse of existing deterministic realization results and sets the stage for a unified treatment of stochastic GLSS realization in innovation form.In Chapter 4, the thesis focuses on autonomous GLSS models and provides an algebraic characterization of minimality and innovation form. It establishes sufficient conditions — in terms of the rank and observability properties of the system matrices — under which a stochastic autonomous GLSS admits a minimal representation in innovation form. These results are pivotal in guaranteeing identifiability and uniqueness up to isomorphism.Chapter 5 first introduces a covariance-based realization algorithm for GLSS with inputs, which constructs a minimal stochastic realization in innovation form using only input-output covariance data. This algorithm addresses key challenges in subspace system identification, including dimensionality reduction via nice-selections, minimality in innovation form, and uniqueness up to isomorphism. Building on this, a complete identification procedure is proposed: it estimates the required covariances from input-output data, and then applies the realization algorithm. The identification method is shown to be asymptotically consistent and computationally efficient. Finally, a gradient-based refinement step is introduced to enhance the accuracy of the estimated parameters. The thesis concludes by summarizing these contributions and outlining several future directions, including generalizations to non-i.i.d. switching and time series applications.</dcterms:abstract>
