<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Malgre? le nombre croissant d'entreprises de?ployant plusieurs Business Models simultane?ment, peu de recherches se sont inte?resse?es au lien entre la diversification des Business Models et la performance. L'objectif de cette the?se est d’appre?hender cette relation en e?tudiant les me?canismes qui lui sont sous-jacents. En utilisant des donne?es provenant de l'industrie mondiale du transport ae?rien, nous avons re?alise? dix-huit analyses QCA et documente? les choix relatifs aux me?canismes d'exploitation des synergies et de re?duction des anti-synergies au sein des compagnies ae?riennes qui exploitent simultane?ment un Business Model Low-Cost paralle?lement a? leur Business Model originel a? service complet. La mobilisation d’une approche configurationnelle, nous a permis d’identifier les configurations de me?canismes expliquant la performance et la haute performance d’un portefeuille de Business Models. Nos re?sultats sugge?rent que les me?canismes d'exploitation des synergies et de re?duction des anti-synergies sont comple?mentaires et interde?pendants. Contrairement a? ce que sugge?rent certaines recherches, il ressort que l'exploitation des synergies lie?es aux ressources n'est pas suffisante pour expliquer la performance des portefeuilles de Business Models. En outre, nos re?sultats montrent une divergence des combinaisons de me?canismes d'exploitation des synergies lie?es aux ressources. Cependant, ces derniers n'ont pas re?ve?le? de diffe?rence majeure entre les configurations de me?canismes a? court et a? moyen terme. Par ailleurs, l'analyse des cas typiques et de?viants nous a permis d'identifier une nouvelle typologie de synergies et d'anti-synergies, qui tient compte des dimensions temporelle et interactionnelle de ces me?canismes. Les contributions de la the?se soulignent la nature e?quifinale, non line?aire et asyme?trique des configurations de me?canismes expliquant la performance des portefeuilles de Business Models.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">Despite the growing number of companies deploying multiple Business Models simultaneously, few studies have explored the link between Business Model diversification and performance. The objective of this thesis is to study this relationship by examining the underlying mechanisms. Using data from the global airline industry, we conducted eighteen QCA analyses and documented the choices related to the mechanisms of exploiting synergies and reducing anti-synergies within airlines that simultaneously operate a low-cost Business Model and their original full-service Business Model. The deployment of a configurational approach allowed us to identify the configurations of mechanisms explaining both performance and high performance in a portfolio of Business Models. Our results suggest that the mechanisms for exploiting synergies and reducing anti-synergies are complementary and interdependent. Contrary to what some research suggests, it emerges that the exploitation of resource-related synergies alone is not sufficient to explain the performance of Business Model portfolios. Furthermore, our results reveal a divergence in the combinations of mechanisms for exploiting resource-related synergies. Meanwhile, our results did not reveal a significant difference between short-term and medium-term mechanism configurations. Additionally, the analysis of typical and deviant cases allowed us to identify a new typology of synergies and anti-synergies that considers the temporal and interactional dimensions of these mechanisms. The contributions of the thesis highlight the equifinal, non-linear and asymmetric nature of the configurations of mechanisms explaining the performance of Business Model portfolios.</dcterms:abstract>
