L'intérêt a été porté sur les difficultés physiques, sensorielles, cognitives, les douleurs, l'autonomie, la participation sociale et la qualité de vie. Une première étape a consisté en la réalisation d'une revue de la littérature qui a mis en évidence le risque accru de développer une maladie neurodégénérative plusieurs années après avoir été victime d'un TCC. En dehors de ce contexte dégénératif, peu d'études se sont intéressées au vieillissement des personnes Traumatisées Crânienne (TC). Nous avons donc effectué une première étude utilisant la méthodologie DELPHI pour interroger des experts du TCC afin de recueillir les spécificités du vieillissement des personnes TC. Notre attention a ensuite été portée sur la participation sociale comme facteur permettant d'influencer le vieillissement de ces personnes. Cependant, puisqu'il n'existait aucun outil francophone permettant de la mesurer, nous avons normalisé et débuté la validation du questionnaire Participation Assessment With Recombined Tools-Objective (PART-O) en langue française. Ce questionnaire a ensuite été utilisé dans notre dernière étude. Celle-ci a évalué des personnes victimes d'un TCC au moins 10 ans après sa survenue. De plus, nous avons pu comparer les performances de certains participants à deux temps de mesure (T1 : 2 à 5 ans post-TCC ; T2 : au moins 10 ans post-TCC). Ces travaux ont permis d'apporter quelques éléments montrant l'hétérogénéité du vieillissement des personnes TC. Des hypothèses concernant les facteurs influençant leur vieillissement ont ainsi été identifiées correspondant notamment à la qualité de l'environnement matériel et humain, la participation sociale et le niveau socio-culturel. Toutefois, d'autres études seront nécessaires pour confirmer ces facteurs. Ces travaux de recherche soulignent l'intérêt d'une adaptation du suivi des patients afin de favoriser leur qualité de vie et leur bien vieillir à long terme du TCC. The general aim of this thesis was to study the aging of people with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). We focused on physical, sensory, and cognitive difficulties, pain, autonomy, social participation, and quality of life. The first step was to conduct a literature review that demonstrated (1) an increased risk of developing a neurodegenerative disease several years after TBI and (2) a lack of research about the aging in people with TBI apart from the degenerative context. Therefore, we used a DELPHI methodology to interview TBI experts regarding the specificities of aging in this population. Our attention was then focused on social participation as a potential factor influencing the aging process of these people. However, since there was no French-language tool to measure it, we standardized and started validating the questionnaire Participation Assessment with Recombined Tools-Objective (PART-O) survey in French. This survey has then been used in our final study. This study assessed people whose TBI occurred at least ten years before. In addition, we were able to compare the performance of some of these participants at two measurement times (T1: 2 to 5 years post-TBI; T2: at least ten years post-TBI). This work made it possible to highlight the heterogeneity of the aging process of people with TBI. Hypotheses concerning the factors influencing their aging process were thus identified, corresponding to the quality of the physical and human environment, social participation, and the socio-cultural level. However, further studies are needed to confirm these factors. Finally, this work underlines the interest in adapting the follow-up of patients to promote their quality of life and promote the aging well after TBI.
