<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">The use of conversion processes such as catalytic cracking (FCC) and hydrocracking (HCK) is essential for maximizing the production of light petroleum fractions. The feeds, containing significant amount of sulfur and nitrogen, and must be pretreated, that is to say hydrotreated, in order to reduce the content of sulfur and nitrogen compounds and avoid poisoning of the acid catalysts used in FCC and HCK. The catalysts currently used have only one hydro-dehydrogenating function introduced by metal sulfides. This work proposes to introduce a moderate acidity in NiW supported on alumina pretreatment catalysts. The moderate acidity can promote the isomerization of refractory sulfur compounds (such as 4,6-DMDBT) thereby facilitating their hydrodesulfurization. For HDN the acid sites can facilitate the cleavage of the C-N, on molecules completely or partially hydrogenated. This acidity is introduced through the niobium, silicon and boron. To control the dispersion of the acid sites in the vicinity of the site hydro-dehydrogenating, the elements Nb/Si/B and W initially introduced within the same heteropolyanionic molecular entity.Several heteropolycompounds containing niobium, silicon, boron and tungsten have been synthesized and characterized. The catalysts were prepared by impregnation with solutions of precursors and characterized in the oxide and sulfided state. The catalysts were tested in the hydrogenation of toluene in the presence of sulfur (with and without aniline) and isomerization of cyclohexane and compared with reference catalysts prepared with conventional precursors. Catalysts promoted by nickel, prepared from silicotungstic or borotungstic acids, were efficient in isomerization while maintaining a high hydrogenating activity; furthermore the use of HPA let a homogeneous dispersion of the acid sites and hydrogenating sites making HPA-based catalysts good candidates for HDS and HDN of refractory molecules, and therefore potential pretreatment catalysts.</dcterms:abstract>
