<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Ce mémoire décrit l'obtention et la caractérisation physico-chimique de composés amphiphiles nonioniques (hydrotropes ou tensioactifs) dérivés de l'éthylène glycol, du glycérol et de l'isosorbide. Le remplacement d'une liaison éther par un lien ester dans des composés polyéthoxylés est un moyen d'accroître leur biodégradabilité. Les esters polyéthoxylés longs (C9COE3, C9COE4) sont plus hydrophiles et présentent des zones de cristaux liquides réduites par rapport aux éthers correspondants (C10E3, C10E4). L'ester court C3COE1 est aussi perfonnant en application que le C4E1 et a permis de montrer qu'il existe une limite basse en amphiphilie permettant une structuration en microémulsion. En revanche, l'auto-association dans l'eau évolue progressivement entre des composés purement solvants et des « solvo-surfactifs ». Les dérivés d'isosorbide présentent un intérêt tout particulier car ce diol issu de l'amidon va connaître une augmentation significative de sa production. Les hydrotropes à tête polaire isosorbide (CiIso, i = 4-6) présentent de meilleures perfonnances en applications que les éthers de glycol courants. Ils sont par ailleurs non-COV. Substitué sur la position 5, l'isosorbide apporte une hydrophilie légèrement supérieure à deux motifs oxydes d'éthylène, alors qu'il est équivalent à un seul motif lorsqu'il est substitué en 2, par conservation de la liaison hydrogène intramoléculaire. L'isosorbide est un synthon polaire prometteur pour l'obtention d'amphiphiles « verts ».</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">This work presents the synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of nonionic amphiphilic compounds (hydrotropes or surfactants) derived from ethylene glycol, glycerol and isosorbide. The replacement of an ether bond by an ester linkage in polyethoxylated derivatives is a way to access compounds with enhanced biodegradability. Long-chain polyethoxylated esters (C9COE3, C9COE4) are more hydrophilic and exhibit reduced liquid crystal dornains compared to the corresponding ethers (C10E3, C10E4). The short-chain ester C3COE1 is as efficient as C4E1 in applications and allowed to show that there is a lower limit in amphiphilicity to get a structuration in microemulsion, whereas the self-association in water exhibits a progressive evolution from solvents to &amp;quot;solvosurfactants&amp;quot; . The isosorbide derivatives are of special interest because this diol, obtained from starch, will undergo a significant production increase. Hydrotropes with an isosorbide polar head (CiIso, i = 4-6) exhibit better perfonnances in application than standard glycol ethers. Moreover, they are non- VOC. When substituted on the 5-position, isosorbide brings a hydrophilicity slightly higher than two ethylene oxyde units, whereas it is equivalent to one when substituted on the 2-position, due to the persistence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond. Isosorbide is a promising polar synthon for the design of &amp;quot;green&amp;quot; amphiphiles.</dcterms:abstract>
